The internet has become an integral component of the modern human experience. The majority of us use the internet for everything from socializing to working to entertaining ourselves, and the role it plays in our lives is always growing.

The growth trajectory of the internet has been incredible. The World Wide Web was first made publicly available in 1991. It had, quite literally, a handful of active users. Today, more than half the world’s population uses it.

There are many fascinating internet statistics to explore. This article will answer some of the most common questions you may have about internet access, internet traffic, eCommerce, social media, and everything else about the internet.

Internet Statistics – At a Glance

The article below will explore hundreds of fascinating figures and statistics. Below, you will find dedicated sections covering stats on internet users, devices, online shopping, social media, digital advertising, and much more.

If you’re just looking for some highlights, here are some of the most noteworthy statistics you should know:

  • More than 58% of the world’s population are active internet users (that’s more than 4.5 billion people)
  • In wealthy countries like the United States, up to 90% of citizens have internet access
  • The average internet user spends 6.5 hours a day on the internet
  • More than 50% of internet use is conducted on mobile devices
  • There are an estimated 1.8 billion websites on the internet
  • There are more than 3.5 billion Google searches every day
  • Over 2 billion people shop online every year, driving substantial economic activity

Internet Population Statistics: How Many People are Internet Users?

As of July 2020, there were over 4.57 billion active internet users. Compare this to the world population of more than 7.8 billion, and we can see the scale of the internet’s effect on our societies.

Today, more than 58% of humans are active internet users. And remember, this figure includes babies, toddlers, young children, the elderly, and the hundreds of millions who have no access to technology at all.

This figure is rapidly growing on a daily basis. An in-depth report indicated that there were 4.33 billion active internet users in 2019. Less than one year later, the figure was 4.57 billion. That means that more than 240 million people were introduced to the internet in the last year alone.

That same report indicates that the per-year growth rate of new internet users is around 8%. The number of internet users is growing at approximately 8x the rate of the total population growth, as technology becomes more affordable and accessible for a wider range of people.

Global Internet Access Stats: How Does Internet Access Vary Around the World?

The percentage of people with internet access is far higher in more developed countries. For example, in the United States, roughly 81% of the population uses the internet on a daily basis, according to Pew Research, and more than 91% of Americans have access to the internet. Stats in the United Kingdom, Canada, South Korea, and other highly developed nations are similar.

Then again, due to the large populations of many Asian countries, the vast majority of internet users reside in Asia. China alone has more than 850 million internet users, more than 2.5x the total population of the United States.

Here is the internet penetration rate (which shows what percentage of the population has access to the internet):

  • North America – 90.3%
  • Europe – 87.2%
  • Latin America/Caribbean – 71.5%
  • Middle East – 70.8%
  • Oceana/Australia – 67.7%
  • Asia – 58.8%
  • Africa – 42.2%

The way people access the internet also differs in various countries. In developing nations, mobile internet users far exceed desktop and laptop users.

Internet Usage Statistics: How Much Time Do People Spend on the Internet?

In 2019, the average active internet user spent a whopping 6.5 hours online every day. Keep in mind that this figure includes all time spent online, including during working hours.

Even so, the figure is staggering. We spend more time on the internet than we do on just about any activity, apart from sleeping. What kind of effect might this be having on our societies?

The internet can certainly contribute to some of society’s problems. For example, rates of anxiety disorders in children and teens are growing rapidly, and some experts point to social media as a root cause.

On the other hand, the internet appears to have a net-positive effect on the global population as a whole. Several prominent studies have shown a positive correlation between access to the internet and personal happiness and satisfaction. Researchers found that having internet access empowered individuals, giving them a better sense of security, influence, and personal freedom.

Internet Access Stats: How Do People Access the Internet?

The internet can be accessed via desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones, and specialty electronics like smart TVs and even vehicles. Internet usage trends (such as the specific internet activities people engage in) vary significantly depending on the device used to access the web. Smartphone users, for instance, tend to spend more time inside apps, while desktop users spend the most time in web browsers.

Today, the majority of internet users access the web via mobile devices. Approximately 50.6% of overall web traffic originates on mobile devices (mobile phones, for the most part), while desktop and laptop account for about 45.5%. The remainder comes from tablets, at only 3.75%.

This is largely due to the affordable nature of mobile phones. Smartphones also improve internet access because they communicate with the web via a cell network, rather than WiFi or a wired internet connection, which is less accessible in developing nations.

Mobile devices from Apple and Android have made it easier, and cheaper, for citizens of developing countries to come online. Meanwhile, mobile apps have made internet content even more engaging, allowing us to interact with the internet wherever we are.

Internet Browser Statistics

Internet browsers are how most of us access the internet. Market share is split between many competitors but dominated by just a few.

Here’s a breakdown of the internet browser market share:

  • Google Chrome – 69.42%
  • Safari – 8.74%
  • Firefox – 8.48%
  • Microsoft Edge – 3.48%
  • Internet Explorer – 2.88%
  • Opera – 2.39%

The data above refers to data from desktop and laptop use.

For mobile phones, here’s the breakdown:

  • Chrome – 64.11%
  • Safari – 22.58%
  • Samsung Internet – 6.75%
  • UC Browser – 2.75%
  • Opera – 1.79%
  • Firefox – 0.48%

As you can see, Safari commands a much higher percentage of mobile browser market share, thanks to the popularity of Apple iPhones.

Mobile Internet Statistics

While we may think of the internet as something that is primarily accessed on desktop computers, this is no longer the case. Increasingly, more and more people are using mobile devices to access the internet. Here are some interesting mobile internet stats and mobile search statistics.

Web Search Statistics

When faced with a problem or a question, most of us pull out our phones and search the web for it immediately. While there are many ways to search, Google is by far the dominant search engine. Here are some interesting web search statistics.

Website Statistics: How Many Websites Are There?

A huge part of the internet is websites we access daily for information, communication, and entertainment. But how many websites are there?

  • According to Internet Live Stats, there are approximately 1.8 billion websites on the internet currently. However, only around 200 million of those are actively updated.
  • As for domain names (example.com, or example.org), there are at least 334 million currently registered. This data was from 2016, so the figure is almost certainly higher.
  • Google, the largest search engine, has over 6 billion indexed pages. Daily Google searches are estimated to be at around 3.5 billion each and every day.
  • WordPress, a popular content management system, powers approximately 33.5% of all the websites online today.
  • Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia, is considered the largest website – but it’s not the one with the most traffic. That title belongs to Google.com
  • English is used as the primary language by over 60% of all websites. The next two most popular languages on the web are Russian (8.6%) and Spanish (4%).
  • The three most popular web hosting providers are Amazon, GoDaddy, and Endurance Group (Bluehost, HostGator, and others). Each controls just over 5% of the global market share.
  • There are hundreds of Top Level Domains (TLDs), from .com and .net to country-specific ones like .co.uk. The most popular, by far, is .com, with over 145 million .com domains registered

Social Media Statistics

Today, social media platforms make up a huge part of what we refer to as “the internet”. Social networks like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat are playing an increasingly large role in all of our lives. Here are some interesting social media statistics.

  • Social media users spend on average 144 minutes per day on social platforms
  • Over 90% of Americans aged 18-29 use social media
  • Facebook is the biggest social media network with 2.6 billion monthly active users
  • Direct messaging apps like Snapchat, WeChat, WhatsApp, and others are growing more rapidly than traditional social media sites
  • 74% of Facebook users check the platform every day

Internet of Things (IoT) Statistics

The Internet of Things, or IoT, is a term that refers to a network of physical devices that use technology (such as sensors or software) that allow them to connect and exchange information with one another. Examples of the Internet of Things include Smart Home systems, advanced factory manufacturing systems, and more.

Internet of Things is becoming increasingly more important in our daily lives, as well as in the global economy. The technology is being used in households, hospitals, factories, and even in fields of crops. Here are some interesting statistics about IoT:

Internet of Things in the Home

Smart Home devices make up the majority of consumer-facing IoT technologies. Smart assistant tech like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri, etc. have made it easy for consumers to integrate various IoT tech into their homes.

Internet of Things in Industry & Business

The bulk of IoT spending and integration takes place in the industrial world. This includes the use of industrial robots, smart manufacturing technologies, autonomous drones, wearable IoT tech, advanced sensor devices, and much more. Manufacturers, utility companies, and construction firms are among the most aggressive in implementing IoT technology.

Internet of Things in Healthcare

Healthcare is another industry that is rapidly adopting IoT technology to improve efficiencies and patient outcomes. Hospitals are implementing smart patient monitors, AI-enabled imaging devices, and more. In healthcare, IoT technology has the potential to take the pressure off of medical staff, by allowing technology to assist in the monitoring of patient vitals and other key measurements.

Internet of Things in Agriculture

Agriculture, or farming, doesn’t seem like it should be a high-tech industry. However, with the massive scale of modern agriculture, today’s farms are becoming increasingly automated and “smart”. IoT is helping farmers gather key data about their crops, such as moisture levels, disease prevalence, and even soil health and nutrient content. Agriculture giants now use smart sensors spread throughout their fields, as well as autonomous drones to survey huge areas of cropland. Researchers hope that IoT technology can help increase yields, reduce water and fertilizer use, and improve efficiencies to help agriculture keep up with the earth’s growing population.

Internet Advertising Statistics

The internet has become a powerful tool for businesses to reach new customers. Paid online advertising, in particular, has become all but essential for modern businesses. Today, the majority of companies pay for some form of digital advertising, on channels including social media and paid search ads. And, as consumers, we are faced with what seems like hundreds of advertisements on a daily basis. Here are some interesting internet advertising statistics.

  • In 2018, roughly 66% of companies invested in some form of paid online advertising
  • Among the businesses surveyed, 86% utilized social media ads, 80% purchased display ads, 66% used paid search marketing, and 43% used retargeted ads
  • Although more businesses utilized social media advertising than paid search advertising, paid search was a larger channel overall, with 17% of global ad spend (compared to 13% for social media)
  • Television advertising, commanding 29% of global advertising spend, is the only advertising channel that is larger than online advertising
  • Nearly half of all online users had an ad-blocking software or extension installed on at least one device

eCommerce & Online Shopping Statistics

Online shopping is becoming so popular that it can really just be called “shopping”. Apart from staples like groceries, most people in wealthy countries now take to the internet often to purchase goods and services. Here are some interesting eCommerce statistics.

The Internet & The Economy

Some of the most interesting internet statistics relate to its vital relationship with the global economy. The internet is involved in just about every aspect of the modern economy, from direct sales to communication to the way in which most workers do their jobs.

Take eCommerce sales, for example. eCommerce makes up over 15% of the total retail sales in the United States, and the figure is growing rapidly.

As more and more business activity moves online, largely to online retailers such as Amazon and eBay, eCommerce sales are becoming even more important to the overall economy. The ratio of retail e-commerce sales is a closely watched figure among economists and business analysts.

Here’s another example of how important the internet is to the world of business: 7 out of 10 of the most valuable companies in the world are all tech-related. Tech firms like Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, Google, and China’s Tencent are among the most valuable publicly traded companies in the world.

The Future of the Internet

The internet has fundamentally changed our lives. It’s been around for about 50 years – although its use has only been widespread for around half that time. It’s difficult to say what the internet may look like in the future, but it’s a fascinating question to ponder.

In 2019, the Pew Research Center surveyed a number of technology experts, asking them what the future of the tech world may be like. Most were optimistic, noting that the internet has the power to help us work less, collaborate and communicate more seamlessly, and even live longer.

In the future, the internet will likely unlock new ways to communicate, allow us to track our own health data more accurately, and potentially completely transform the way we work and live. It could change a lot about our lives for the better – but there are also substantial risks.

If the right policies and public attitudes are not implemented, the internet could also cause negative changes. A reduction in privacy, a growing dependence on technology, and worsening economic inequality are just a few of the concerns policymakers must keep in mind as they seek to regulate the internet.

While the true future of the internet is impossible to predict, suffice it to say that the online world is here to say – and it’s only bound to become an even more integral part of our lives.

Money is only one form of wealth, and possibly the least solid. But it is not that this is reprehensible at all. What deserves judgment is the banality and ignorance of people regarding the integral meaning that wealth has. A human being is rich without money when he finally understands that the best things in life are free.

They say that one day Alexander the Great with his entire army was passing by on a path of those vast lands that made up his empire. At some corner, he came across a small man blocking the caravan.

Alexander’s aide-de-camp approached him and said: you are stopping the advance of the army led by the man who conquered the whole world, who are you? Tthe little man replied: I am just someone who conquered his desire to conquer the world.

This little anecdote (which will finally be known if it was true), contains the representation of something wonderful: the genuine value of things in life. Not the one that is often understood unique because modern society sells it, rather the one that transcends the material and is inscribed in the deep meaning of existence.

Here are some ways to get rich without money:

1.- Be a rich person in moral character.

Character is the set of traits and qualities that indicate the way of thinking/acting of a person and distinguish it from others.
Being someone of moral uprightness and having character to make it prevail over the circumstances that occur in life is something of immense value. Such a person is distinguished from 100 who have a lot of money and essentially nothing else.
If you have solid moral character and apply it in every act of your life, you are a very rich person. Period.

2.- Marry the love of your life.

Does it seem irrelevant? It is not! It is a blessing that a few people get, although it seems strange. And the fortune attached to this experience provides a quality of life that cannot substitute for money or other value.

3.- Be able to defend their beliefs.

When values and beliefs must be negotiated to obtain positions or money, the route to poverty is quickly traveled. Sooner rather than later this cost manifests itself in life and overshadows any other achievement.
On the other hand, living in a way that is aligned with values and beliefs is a fortune that few can enjoy.

4.- Reach balance of life.

A “balanced” life is possibly the most obvious way to be rich without having money. Balance is the energy that sustains the Universe and qualifies everything in its proper measure. Few, very few, achieve balance in their life. Achieving it reduces any effort to accumulate money.

5.- Being able to enjoy quality time with family.

Whoever does not depend basically on anything or anyone to have quality time with its family, should consider themselves a lucky person. These experiences are not comparable to what money can buy. And they are not always within the reach of those who have prioritized the accumulation of financial fortune as a life goal.

6.- Appreciate freedom.

Freedom as such is not a manifestation of wealth, the ability to appreciate it is. Most people in this world take for granted being able to enjoy their freedom until they lose it. Few appreciate it and experience its value.
Think, What good is it to be a free person if you are unable to appreciate and enjoy what it means? By critically evaluating your environment, you can see that there are very few truly free people in it.

7.- Feel comfortable with yourself.

Is there a more satisfying way to live? Feeling COMFORTABLE with yourself is a blessing few know.
For most people, the world is an uncomfortable place to live (to say the least). But this is not a “defect” in the environment, rather a manifestation of the discomfort they feel with themselves.

8.- Make a difference in the lives of others.

There are people whose presence stands out and others whose absence is noticeable. If you belong to this second group, you are incredibly wealthy. It has transcended its own dimension and is a being that makes a difference for others. You should know that these are the people who leave the world better than they found it.

9.- Follow your own advice.

This is quite simple. If you are someone who can afford to follow your own advice, you have gained independence and wisdom in this world. It can be considered a sovereign being and the owner of its destiny. Most people are insecure and do not even have confidence in themselves. They depend on the outcome of circumstances and the will of others.

10.- Build mutually beneficial relationships.

If you are part of relationships that are enriched by your presence, and in which you feel valued and better, you are very rich without having money. Win-win relationships are as rare as high-value jewelry. Check it out!

11.- Build experiences and memories.

Of experiences and memories is what the final journey of life is all about. This is what matters when the story ends, the rest is irrelevant. They say that the greatest regrets when death is near are related to experiences that were not lived, and memories that were not forged at will.

If you are building beautiful experiences and memories in your life, you have a richness that will accompany you until your last day, and a little beyond …

12.- Be a trusted friend.

How much is a friend worth? And how much is a trusted one? How much can you say about one thing or the other?
If you are one of those people, you are worth much more than every gram of your weight in gold.

13.- Stay honest with yourself.

Honesty with oneself is the “last” of the values that are sacrificed, many times, for material interests. And who has not done it, keeps a treasure that many millionaires envy.

In reality, all people can be, in some way, honest with themselves, but REMAINING this way through the challenges and difficulties of life, is an achievement of few.

14.- Enjoy passion for life.

Everyone has fallen in love with a person, a vision, or a task, and in this sense, they know the honey of passion. If these beautiful sensations are linked to every act of life, you are extraordinarily rich without having money.

15.- Say “yes” because you want to.

Not because it is due. How many can say this? Reflect a bit on your life and see if you can fit into this category. If you can, you are very wealthy.

16.- Raising good children.

They will be part of your legacy; they will represent you in this world after you leave it. If your children are a contribution that you leave to the world, feel rich. Because few can say the same and exonerate responsibilities.

17.- Live with honor.

This is, without the “need” to compromise moral values or good conduct premises. This “need” has the face of a heretic, it hides in subtleties and is treacherous. Ultimately, only everyone knows if they live with their honor intact or in good standing. And if you do, you have nothing to envy the world’s greatest millionaire.

18.- Make others feel special.

The people who achieve this are extraordinary. Their memory survives in those who were fortunate enough to meet them. How many people like this exist? Try to verify it. You will come to a sad but great conclusion: They are few, and each one has a priceless value.

19.- Live according to your possibilities.

And make it happy, in peace and communion with everything. This is not part of anything like poor ambition or resignation. Living well and according to the possibilities, is a trait of wisdom. Because on the other hand, nobody is putting a size limit on those possibilities.

20.- Doing things for the right reasons.

“You have to do what you have to do.” This is a sign that makes the world work. It is a representation of functionality, practicality, and pragmatism. But it is something that does not apply to the lucky few who enjoy doing things for the right reasons! These establish the guidelines for the evolution of things on the planet: they are the creators, the leaders.
If you fit in the category you are “completely rich without money.” And this is just one way of expressing yourself because, for people who turned things around for the right reasons, money is never elusive.

21.- Have a sense of purpose in life.

Most people tie their life to things or people, few do it to a goal. This last one has a sense of purpose for their existence that is very valuable. Something that gives meaning and significance, because the objectives, unlike things or people, can be considered their own indefinitely.

Having a life full of purpose represents, without a doubt, being rich without having money.

22.- See the good in others.

Relationships between people are a game of projections and reflections. What generates rejection or disgust from another person is, most of the time, something that oneself reproaches inside.
Having the ability to see the good in others is a powerful way to enrich your life. It is proof that prejudices have been overcome and the minutiae of mediocre spirit have been transcended. It is a manifestation of wealth that has the power to change the destiny of the human species.

23.- Overcoming adverse odds.

The feeling of happiness and fulfillment that comes from reaching “unlikely” goals is worth as much or more than any amount of money. Because it is a concrete representation of value. Beating the odds is not a matter of chance, it is the effect of keen vision and hard work. A consequence of talent and character. These attributes can get you anything in life … even money.

24.- Receive a clean health certificate.

How much is this worth? Isn’t it one of the most important manifestations of being rich without having money? “Health is priceless” is not a cliché. And if you have it well and complete, feel like a rich man, in the greatest sense of the word.

25.- Feeling comfortable being alone.

The only way to feel good being alone is to feel good about yourself. And this is not achieved by just anyone. In fact, it is much more difficult than building a fortune of money. Think about it! Feeling good about who you are and what you do is the product of a lifetime of personal development. And it is a treasure that justifies any kind of pride.

26.- Enjoy days without worries.

It would be superb to say that some live ALL their days without worries. That is practically impossible. But “enjoying carefree days” is not only doable, but it is also a treasure.

You can have all the money in the world, but if “carefree” days are the exception that proves a rule, you live in complete poverty. Nobody has come to this world to become an expert in facing and solving problems and concerns, here you are to have positive experiences of life. Any other attitude only obeys the immortality complex that foolish spirits have.

27.- Celebrate many anniversaries.

This is another way to be rich without having money. Celebrate many anniversaries! And not only as a product of healthy longevity but also as a celebration of long relationships of love, friendship, respect, work, etc. Ponder this for a moment: how many people can say, with a smile on their face, that they have celebrated many anniversaries?

28.- Realize your potential.

Fortunate and wealthy are all those who achieve the best version of themselves on this earth. Nothing is alien to them, much less money. Realizing the potential with which one has arrived in this world is the transcendent objective for excellence, the reason of being of the person who has become aware of who it is and what it should do in his passage through life.

29.- Being and staying self-sufficient.

This is freedom! Feeling complete, self-sufficient in comprehensive terms. No dependencies on anything or anyone else. Rather, with the ability to give to others what is abundant in one. To be and stay like this throughout life. This is being immensely rich, even if the money is not involved.

30.- Go to bed with a clear conscience.

They say that Alexander the Great’s agony was long and painful until death finally took him away. The exact cause is not known, but it is most likely that he was poisoned.

Alexander conquered the entire known world, but unlike that little man who crossed his retinue, he could not conquer himself. He did not achieve the peace that this victory provides, his soul lived restlessly until the last day, always wanting something more.

His deathbed was not benign, but neither was the pillow on his ordinary nights. He did not feel comfortable with himself and neither with others. He was the owner of the world, but rich by no means.

Instead, that little man who conquered himself, lived and died rich without money, much less an empire.

Dear AEA and GCE Colleague

I am happy to inform you that we have established a cooperation alliance with a network of lawyers and accountants from the United States of America called GCE GLOBAL LIMITED.

We have been searching in the last months for a cooperation with an American Network. We are the largest network of Lawyers in Europe in what relates to the number of offices and countries covered. In USA there are many lawyers networks. The practice of networking and cooperation between lawyer firms is much more extended in USA than in Europe. So it is a good business opportunity to establish an alliance with a network based in USA.

GCE Global is a network leader in the area of strategic planning, support and development for small, medium and large Enterprises nationally and internationally. It is a group of consulting firms of Law and Accounting.

The majority of the firms of GCE Global are located in America. They have offices in USA, Mexico, Guatemala. Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, Chile, Argentina. Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Dominican Republic.

Outside America the presence is very limited as they only have offices in China, Indonesia and UK.

Therefore it is a good business opportunity for AEA members as we can get referrals coming from America.

The AEA members can attend the events of GCE global as if they were GCE members. In the same sense GCE members will be able to attend the AEA Congresses. GCE members have been invited to attend the AEA 15th International Congress in Barcelona the 20 and 21th May. They will have the same opportunities as AEA members and therefore will give a presentation of two minutes of their offices and will pay no registration fee.

The main goal of this alliance is to increase referrals so that AEA members can get more work.

AEA keeps growing in these difficult times.

You have more information about GCE Global in their website www.GCE.global

Kind regards.

Pedro Beltran
President AEA

Fortus in the House

This past week GCE Global hosted Fortus Group in the House. In a webinar, CEO Joao Custodio talked about the different business pipelines under which Fortus Group Brazil operates and emphasized on the new ways in which human resources processes will be conducted by outsourcers and companies. In times of uncertainty it seems like every company has been forced to cruise on a learning curve, at a fast pace, and a lot of changes are highly affecting corporate morals. Nonetheless, Custodio projects that even though it will take longer than expected to overcome this situation, hope and persistence will be essential to ensure entrepreneurial success in times of struggle.

Among the several topics discussed, we referred to the movie Up in the Air and the predictable times of massive “let go” in many industries. It is not only discouraging for many to lose their source of income, but also the different techniques put in place for such protocols. For example, digital communication platforms being used as means to let people go, just like it was predicted in 2009. Getting fired from home is the new way to do it. Even though many would disagree, Custodio believes these measures do not make a difference and do not have an impact in society. He explained that mistakes in the processes of human resources can be made either in person or through virtual means, both highly impacting the executing company. According to him, “it is not the means but the way in which these proceedings are executed that really matter”.

Furthermore, Custodio was asked about the success of Fortus group during such hard times and thru the current political situation in Brazil, to which he gave a strategic response. Custodio believes that they key to success in Fortus group has been working with transparent clients and encouraging employees to come together to overcome this situation. In regards to Brazil, he still believes that democracy is the strongest weapon against corruption and that institutions are still doing it right, yet politicians are the ones hampering the system. For approximately 16 years Fortus group has consolidated a history of successful business in Brazil, especially in Fortus Accounting, Fortus HR, and Fortus Legal. Do not hesitate to go Fortus, a firm that ensures transparency and success.

Love and sales are seldom discussed together. There is an intellectual, “technical” and conventional distance between them that leads to the conclusion (tremendously wrong) that both are “very different matters”.

Love and sales sustain a misunderstood relationship. Victim of the individuals immersed in that “cold and distant world” that commercial relationships have become.

Some will argue that sales are now neither “cold nor distant.” That they only evolve to the rhythm of everything else. But as “electronic robots” fill people’s mail with offers and enter every area that is franked, it is also true that sales are “dehumanizing” at best.

As an example, look at the media and the profile that a seller has now (be it a person or Organization). Existing resources would pale Jules Verne’s imagination.

The “technology” that supports his work makes him look like an astronaut from the 60s: electronic programs for identifying and tracking prospects, applications with a roadmap for approaching and dealing with relationships, automated after-sales services, organization and exploitation of meta-data, geo-location.

It would be necessary to see if sales are a science or not, but it is a fact that at least they have become high engineering.

These are some terms and concepts that a seller should know now (and beware: the list is a minimal expression of what exists):

Lead
ROS
Teaser
UPS
Upgrade
Upselling
Vending
CMR
KPI
ROI
POS
MQR
MRR
Neurosales
This as a sample!

There are countless terms, acronyms, names, acronyms and anglicisms. A dictionary is needed to keep focus.

This is the “contemporary” world of sales. And not to mention Marketing and Administration. Fashionwords are common. They have the healthy purpose of illustrating (theoretically), but they only generate confusion and “intellectual bureaucracy”.

If it is about grammatical constructions, it is possibly this “intellectual bureaucracy” that best explains the labyrinth in which management techniques (including sales, of course) have gotten, to try to efficiently fulfill their purposes.

The “bureaucratic dysfunctions” always complicate the processes, and the more if it is mental processes!

How can love and sales be considered in such a context? Treating the subject from this angle can be considered exotic, or interpreted at least as an expression of “flower-power”.

But there is no margin of confusion for this matter: love is intimately linked with sales. As it is with all things in life. Simple, and easy to understand.

It is not just that the seller (individual or Organization) loves their work. That aspect of love, valid as it is, is not part of this analysis. The love you are interested in treating is the love that the client (or prospect) has for his own money.

So is. Customer love for their money. The one that will eventually have to “dispense” to acquire what is for sale.

The person interested in buying something must develop more interest, attention, curiosity and affection for the product or service that they want to sell than for the money that it represents to acquire it. In this simple reality is the improvement of sales.

On the other hand, that “affection” for the offer being evaluated is not only disputed by the money that must be dispensed, but also by competing offers. The client (or the prospect, to be technically rigorous), will always be the pretty girl at the dance, and the seller who disputes their favors with other interested parties.

If the prospect’s love for the sales offer cannot be greater than his love for his money and the other offers, there will be no transaction.

And this love is not conquered with “intellectual bureaucracy” or the use of a technological arsenal. It is done the same as thousands of years ago: with seduction and grace, attention and delicacy, persistence, encouragement and patience.

This is a game that summons to seduce and fall in love. To build a relationship, not just a contact.

It is a matter of chemistry and skin. Sincerity and honesty. Desire and passion.

The bots know very little about all this.

The logic of the love and sales game is simple, almost elementary, because love is just that in human cosmology: an elementary matter.

But playing, and doing it well, is one of the most difficult things out there.

Ninon De L Énclos said it well: “It takes much more genius to make love than to send armies.” And in this logic, the seller would benefit more from studying “the 24 laws of the art of seduction” than a treatise from “Customer Research Management”.

The seller (or Organization) that adopts love as the axis of work to perfect their business relationships, takes into account aspects such as those described below (the biblical statements of Peter in their second letter are of precious reference):

1.- Love is not perfected in words.

It is NOT because it is said to be, or because the personal or “corporate” ego understands it. Love is far from passions or comfort. He is not reflective, he acts. It is not covered in sayings, gestures or impulses.

Love and sales are not rhetoric. There is no space for nice but empty phrases, or the threat that many gestures represent. Love demands action. Concrete facts. Tangible samples.

It is up to the seller to express his desire. Clearly display your interest. There may be a positive or negative response, but that is the only unknown. Otherwise, it is clear that you want to conquer and establish a relationship.

2.- Love suffers, and sales too.

The things that are worth in life and business have a COST. And this is higher in that it represents something of greater value.

People flee from discomfort, difficulty, and pain. This is a world of ease and brevity. Immediate retribution, impatience and susceptibility.

The seller who does not “suffer” in the process of conquest, finally does not charge a piece of great value. The relationship is direct. The cost is higher the more valuable the award. The greater the suffering, the greater the reward.

3.- Love and sales are not envious, they are not boastful and they do not puff up.

Be very careful with this!

Envy always shows weakness. And the prospect does not quote this well. Emulating, recognizing, taking advantage of, and even dismissing the success of others apply in a certain sense, but envying them does not. The “playing field” of sales is wide and foreign. Envy is not only absurd, it is fundamentally a valuable waste of energy.

Love is not boastful, and the seller cannot be, of course. The reason is elementary: before a boastful seller, the client feels an award, a record, and not a distinguished part of a relationship.

The seller who boasts of being a good seller is actually selling himself for very little.

And the vanity? It is a tempting path. But it is also one of the biggest mistakes the seller can make. Vanity is a lousy ingredient in business. It is simply very expensive. The vain individual recognizes himself from afar and is easy to manipulate.

4.- Love does nothing wrong, does not seek its own, is not irritated, does not hold a grudge.

If sales are not a transparent process, they die before they are even born. The “improper” does not create business relationships, nor does it pay well.

In few aspects of human dynamics, honesty has a better reward than in sales. A client will never love the offer that is made to him more than the money that represents him, if there is something that does not smell good.

On the other hand, if the seller “does not seek his own” and concentrates efforts on a transaction that represents the best interests of the parties, it will generate a sustained profit over time.

This is the difference between a buyer and a customer. Of the first we are all one. But customers only for a particular offer.

The seller who does not seek his own does not generate a sale, builds a relationship.

Love is not irritated and does not hold a grudge. And the seller who eventually does not respect these premises has little to expect at the party, no matter how much he has all the knowledge and resources.

Few trades exude more love than the seller for his trade. It is a prominent note in the history of love and sales. Because only by loving the trade can that impersonal function of selling be assumed without fear of rejection and without rancor in the face of repeated indifference.

That can only be achieved by love.

Only in this way does the character become meat. Thus a professional salesman is born who does not lose his individuality, like the actor who leaves the skin on the character but does not lose himself.

5.- Love and sales do not enjoy injustice, but rather the truth. They suffer it all, believe it, expect it and endure it.

It is not like this?

Nothing sells like the truth. Check it out!

In the commercial history of humanity, unfair transactions have never exceeded the superficial and the vain. While the truth, however hard and complex, has always generated lasting links.

In sales, the best lie is always the truth.

In order to perfect the transaction, the corresponding amount is suffered. Every possibility is believed. The result is patiently awaited and endured. The latter is not a small thing, because you have to have as much wood to support failure as success. The first forces to resume flight, and the second to do so at higher altitudes.

At the end of the road it is not that love and sales are a combination for all success, it is more appropriate to say that sales are, in fact, a love story.

The long-term mentality is not popular in modern life and possibly has not been so throughout history. However, it is the safest way to achieve goals that people and organizations set. This is so for a powerful reason: the long-term mentality always operates with time in its favor.

There is no better ally (or worse enemy), than time. Before him all the resources that individuals have pale. He marches at his pace in an impassive, ruthless and unforgiving way. Its power raises one of two options: it faces its energy or takes advantage of it.

“Everything heals, accommodates and resolves over time.”

This is a statement that people understand well and accept. However, in addition to this, it is not a premise that they put into practice when it comes to setting goals and achieving them.

The human being worships immediate retribution, instant response. He has a short-term mentality that responds to an unconscious hedonism, the insecurity he possesses and all the fears that possess him. People recognize their mortality, the short time their experiences will have on this earth. That is why they strive to reach their goals quickly. However, they do not realize that this equally affects the effectiveness and efficiency of the processes.

The effectiveness of the short-term mentality is precarious by nature. The proportion of successes in relation to the attempts is reduced. In the short term the successes are always smaller than the failures.

On the other hand, in a process governed by the short-term criterion, efficiency is struck by disorder, excessive investment of energy and a heavy burden of psychological factors: anxiety, frustration, saturation, exhaustion, etc.

Processes that are guided by short-term premises are less likely to succeed and are more expensive.

The energy required is large. It must be applied with emphasis on short periods of time. That on the one hand. On the other, energy must also cover the costs of failures that occur.

Statistically, the probability of failure is always greater as long as the time to measure the result is shorter. To the extent that there is more time to evaluate the results, failure becomes a more manageable variable.

What are the recommendations that the short-term mentality issues for the treatment of failure ?: accept it, understand it, overcome it, take advantage of it, etc. It does not emphasize the possibility of AVOIDING it. He lives with failure and works all the techniques to be able to process it benignly.

The long-term mentality, on the other hand, is aimed at avoiding failure by taking time as an ally.

How does the long-term mentality operate?

1.- Address the treatment of objectives without PREMURA.-

This means no sense of urgency or haste to reach them. And this should not be confused with dissatisfaction because it is pure and powerful strategic sense. The reason is simple: every process can be classified as urgent or important, and if it is treated in one way it cannot be the other.

The urgent must be treated promptly, of course, but the very sense of urgency (which has so much of “emergency”) is not something that is desirable. On the other hand, when one does not work with “urgencies” (in any type of process), the treatment of the important arises, which is a qualitatively superior state.

When discarding haste, the long-term mentality automatically places itself in the treatment of the important, and thus optimizes the use of time.

People do not perceive that the short-term mentality tends to generate urgencies everywhere. And they don’t realize that the demands of it cause more time wasting than there would have been with a long-term vision.

Who wants to be effective in dealing with their objectives should address the important and avoid the uncontrolled emergence of emergencies.

Everyone must recognize that the quality of decisions (in whatever way) is always greater when there is no haste.

You live in a culture that mystifies the ability of people to make decisions “under pressure” and be expedited. It is implied that “time is money” and cannot be wasted. But problems and failures associated with haste are harvested, and with them irremediable waste of time.

2.- The long-term mentality is conservative.-

It does not mean that it does not risk, because finally taking risks is an imperative of evolution. But it does so by keeping, respecting and protecting the interests involved, especially the most important ones.

The logic of “saving” involves not compromising all the resources or measures available in a single effort.

The sense of “respect” is linked to the nature of the risk. Not to underestimate it, to evaluate carefully and conscientiously all the variables that will be involved in the process.

And finally, the premise of “protect” refers to all the actions that must be established to take care of the good state of the objectives, resources and efforts that are invested.

Military strategists always refer to their “reserves” when they undertake their tasks and objectives. They never expose all their resources in the contest. They keep some of them with the purpose of responding to negative or positive eventualities, because in the first case “reserves” can avoid failure and in the second case guarantee victory. The short-term mentality tends to liquidate “reserves” very soon, because, among other things, it assumes that the time is short to achieve the purposes.

Winners never avoid risk, but respect it. They don’t ignore it or underestimate it, they just respect it. Decisions made quickly do not have a deference to risk, rather they increase it.

Finally, the “protection” of objectives and resources refers to the need to make forecasts. The long-term mentality does it profusely. And it does not assume the risk of losing competitive opportunities or advantages. Forecasts should exist when important things are addressed, either in the form of alternative courses of action, appropriate information, additional resources, minor objectives, protection of the starting point, etc.

3.- The long-term mentality fully understands what Investment means.

There is no benefit if it is not invested first. This is clear to the long-term mentality. And the main investment that privileges is time, curiously the most valuable of all the factors that can be invested.

The short-term mentality does not favor the investment of time in the same way as other factors. In reality, and by logic, it is the least invested. In doing so ignores the benefits that the most valuable of man’s resources can provide.

While the short-term mentality assumes that there is a “waste of time” when the processes are longer than expected, the long-term mentality understands that the “benefits” will be greater the longer it is invested.

Now, don’t confuse things. The reference to investment of time has nothing to do with dysfunctions that may exist in the processes, that is, failures as a result of bad management.

The long-term mentality controls the investment of time, manages it in its entirety, makes it a factor that enriches the process. The “waste of time” due to bad management are equal in the consideration of the short or long term.

People carefully invest money and other elements, overcome reluctance and resentment, but have a strong sense of scarcity when it comes to investing time, especially if it does not involve immediate retribution. They are not clear about the concept. They understand very little the fact that investing time consciously is the best way to avoid their own waste. Because time passes the same in all cases, but plays in favor when it is not a self-imposed limitation.

You have to be a skilled person to generate benefits in the short term, but whoever manages to successfully manage the magic inscribed in long-term processes is a teacher.

4.- The long-term mentality always obtains greater benefits in the short term.

The reason is obvious: what for the short-term mentality are goals not achieved, for the long term are disputed goals.

When one mentality assumes that the game is over (successfully or not), the other understands that there is still time left to continue accumulating achievements. While some have to deal with failures (objectives not achieved), the others must do so with means that continue to operate in pursuit of achievements over time.

Can a football team be defeated if a score fits within 30 minutes of play? Only if you consider that the party has that extension of time. But if the 90 minutes must be played, a goal against it does not determine the result.

Can a football team assume that it is out of the championship title dispute if it has lost or tied 10 of the 30 games that the contest has? Only if you consider that the 10 games is the total extension of the championship. Otherwise it will assume the inconvenience only as part of the process.

This logic refers to the virtue of the long-term mentality. As time is longer, so are the opportunities.

5.- In the long term the benefits are always greater.-

The human mind focuses on an objective according to the commands given to it. If in a process that has a scale from 1 to 10, the objective is set to 3, the mental focus and articulation of actions are directed there. Then, when resources are reorganized to pursue goal 6, everything must start over. It is different if the initial objective is 10. Because the mind focuses on the major objective and goes through previous stages (3 and 6), as part of a process that is executed successfully.

A more prosaic example can be illustrated with money. If the objective is to accumulate profits of one million, the first 100,000 that are obtained are a rung of the ladder. On the other hand, if 100,000 are considered the primary objective, the million remains a diffuse milestone. And what happens if the first 100,000 have difficulty in reaching? For the short term criterion it will be a probable failure, while for the long term it will be a difficulty.

However, can focusing on the long term leave the intermediate objectives “blurred” in the same way that happens in the opposite case? The answer is no. Objectives and action are not the same. The action always occurs here and now, the objectives are raised at discretion. Who works with long-term goals does not stop acting right now. But the action is of higher quality as long as it must not face the rigors of a merciless factor: time.

6.- In emotional terms the long-term mentality saves energy.-

Reduce anxiety and frustration. This is not a little, because it clarifies and optimizes the judgment. Finally, this is all about the processes to achieve objectives. The common denominator is energy. This is even more important than time, because it guarantees the activity.

Life is a endurance race, not a speed test. Not even for those who favor immediate competitiveness. Performance is always a function of the individual, and it is better as long as the individual is better.

The short term is more likely to emotionally punish people and therefore overrides any competitive potential, present or future. Who walks looking at his feet with the idea of not stumbling, loses perspective, risks walking in circles and without north. Who walks with the view anchored on the horizon may stumble, but will go further.

The long-term mentality is a close companion of wisdom.

It is a measure of qualification of the self-confident man, of being patient who does not mortgage his potential based on mirages of immediate transcendence. It is a recognition to the march of the turtle of the fable that wins the test because the hare runs out prematurely.

The economist John M. Keynes said: “In the long term we will all be dead.” And there is no way to discuss that. Therefore, it is about living in the present without it, every moment, looking like an advance of the end. Short-term expectations are, many times, a premature experience of that final that awaits us all in the long term.

The idea that every job is decent, and that leisure is reproachable nowadays is already accepted, however, this affirmation hides some important aspects about the human being life.

They talk about dignity in the work. BAH! Dignity is in leisure

Firstly, is good to have the proper knowledge about the meaning of dignity:
“Attribute whose make himself value as a person. It behaves with responsibility, respect, and thoughtfulness to himself and not allowing to be humiliated by others.”
Secondly, it is helpful to clarify the meaning of leisure:

“The term leisure (Spanish: ociohas its origins from Latin “otium”which means rest and easiness. Leisure is the break, cessation or interruption of work. Furthermore, it can be defined such the free time of one person. The recreational time of one man uses voluntarily for its pleasure. The satisfaction of basic needs like sleep and eat. Leisure excludes all that refers to responsibilities and obligations in a working environment. The time of leisure appears as soon the human make free activities to get satisfaction and gratification.
Finally, is good to know that the interpretation of WORK is related to ACTIVITY. Because it’s a fact that every kind of activity involves effort and time.
Within the frame of these meanings exist an important relationship among dignity, liberty, and leisure. Therefore, there is a connection between dignity and leisure.
It´s more probable that work activities affect people dignity than leisure does.
In terms of physical and mental effort investment, work and leisure activities are the same. Not only we can associate leisure with inactivity. Keeping this in mind we can affirm “leisure time appears when the men do reward activities
From these simple comparisons we get some considerations:
1- It`s correct to say that work is only to get financial reward?

2- Leisure activities can give us financial reward?

The answer to questions 1 and 2 is yes. Obviously
These matters are not obvious for people due to natural conditioning. Because it`s true that not only work tasks give us economic compensation if not that rewarding tasks as well.

Insomuch as the fundamental factor of freedom, it´s closer to discretional tasks, is a fact that dignity is better. Support in leisure.
Stablishing a moral issue that every human-built happiness daily looking to achieve its man goals. And this is reached essentially with the practice of rewarding activities. The idea of every task is linked with a disgusting work where you don’t receive a decent treatment and without freedom have to be deleted.
The only human responsibility is to himself, in this way begins a virtuous cycle which benefits other humans. “And this responsibility is not related to making a job that not bring to the human a value condition”
In this sense, not all the jobs are not worthy, of course, and conversely, all activities in leisure time are rewarding.
Economic incomes are necessary to achieve the human goals, these incomes have to be obtained doing that kind of activities which are rewarding and related to leisure. Easy!
This recommendation can be perfectly linked with the production of fulfilling activities, therefore, economic benefits are guaranteed.
On the other hand, every activity that is done with satisfaction is connected with excellence and produce better results and retributions. The social and individual impact of these activities always is positive.
Life is not about that story of “sweat and tears” which is have told to the human for centuries. The logic of “Hardworking” is have been a misunderstanding for all the history. The directions to avoid that the men become dissolute being are have been used to build the “hard-working” philosophy to justify suffering.
Of course, one thing is laziness and another thing is to combat this illness with the apology of working
Another immoral fact is the “easy” relation among job and work, this aspect has a universal approval because is easy (especially for sluggish minds) to associate a person with a job as a “worker”.
Is a fact that many tasks accomplished in the work sometimes attempt against people dignity, it´s like if you have to “pay” for having a job. That’s why people think that a person who doesn´t “pay” is an idle, a victim or just someone that we have to feel ashamed.
This misunderstanding about job attends against “people dignity” producing rules and new legislations. In this way job codes, worker syndicates and associations are made, all of these elements grant conditions in the workers’ environment.
The easier possibility to say I quit!As the way to finish an unsatisfactory relationship of work is never a solution, indeed.
The human being has all the conditions to generate its economic incomes, these people understand that the solution for a disgusting job is normally to quit it.
The moment that they understand this, thoughts like what is my future? how I can pay my debts? how I can support my family? Starts to appear in its mind.
If someone dares to say that the solution in leisure (in a good way), automatically it will be very much “in the public eye”.
It is right the person who affirms that a dream world is replacing the thought of “hard work” for the thought of “high production”. This is thought is very logical and doesn’t involve complicated sophistries.
“High production” emerges from the people who make rewarding tasks but not from the people who have an unsatisfactory job because they just feel “working”.
Dignity is in the leisure of course because never can be separated from freedom.
Dignity is in leisure because the first men responsibility is to preserve itself. Only in this way the person can be more responsible for others.
Dignity is in leisure because the social contribution of one person who makes that he likes is better and make him feel exalted.
We have to delete that paradigm which nowadays establishes that a person who has a job without some diploma is little worth. In this, though the doctor, engineer or professor even though having an unpleasant job always will be better than the happiest ice cream maker or than the carpenter with outstanding sales and good quality of life.
This paradigm exalts the person who works “from sun to sun” (although when he wastes time in inefficient tasks) and found suspicious the activity of people who “makes less effort” to achieve better results.
The man who has gifted with mental conditions in this world in contrast whit the man without aspirations allow him to avoid waste time working looking for the feeling of the completed mission doing tasks without any north or direction.
The man has the potential to focus its energies to make rewarding activities that allow him to satisfy his needs
Leisure activities don´t have a relationship with laziness or sluggishness these words means different things. The leisure means that goal to achieve and it is looking for feel freedom and enjoyment. If the cultural conditioning could do a step aside the leisure can be converted into a group of productive activities.
If this last idea doesn´t lead us to dignity at least it can give us a worthy goal of life.
